Moravian Women's Soccer Hangs Tough in Loss to Rowan

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's soccer hung tough in their non-conference game versus Rowan University Wednesday afternoon on the HUB Quad but ended up falling in the end 2-0.

The Greyhound ran back and forth with the Profs in the first half keeping the score 0-0 at the end of the first 45 minutes of play. The Hounds were able to find shots from senior defender Melissa Pavia and sophomore midfielder Emily Crowley. Crowley's chance came off of a header right in front of the net but it just bounced wide of the goal.

"I like how some of our older players took leadership in the game," commented Head Coach Jeff Ykoruk. "We had to switch a couple of them to positions that they are not used to playing due to a few injuries and they really stepped up and worked hard at those positions."

In the second half, Moravian got another two shots from sophomore midfielder Brittney Peter and senior midfielder Brittany Nicoline. Both shots came later in the game as the Hounds tried to battle back and recover some of the ground that Rowan had gained.

Senior goalkeeper Jacqueline Zalis made seven saves for the Greyhounds.

Up next for Moravian is a non-conference match versus St. Mary's College (Md.) at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 19. That game will be played at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md.
