Hounds Score Last-Minute Goal for Win Against Albright

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's soccer team defeated Albright College in non-conference action by a final of 2-1 as the game-winning goal came with only 41 seconds left in the game on a header by sophomore defender Lauren Bertucci on a corner kick.

The Hounds started the game off quickly, having junior forward Valentina Margiottiello blast a shot off of the crossbar in the sixth minute of play. "I thought we came out strong, and had a lot of good opportunities but we couldn't find the back of the net," commented Head Coach Jeff Ykoruk after the game. "Valentina had a shot that went off the crossbar and the goalie made a couple of big saves."

"The second half I thought we played well," continued Ykoruk. "It is tough when you go ahead then let the opposing team tie it back up. I thought we really worked hard and were able to find one more goal to win at the end."

In the second half, the Greyhounds were able to find two goals, both of which came off of corner kicks. The first goal came in the 52nd minute when senior forward Brittany Nicoline played the ball into the box off of a corner. Nicoline's kick found sophomore midfielder Brittney Peter in the middle of the box, who was able to poke it past the goalie and into the back of the net for her second goal of the season.

The Lions would tie the match in the 61st minute on a penalty kick.

With the clock winding down, Moravian was awarded its eighth corner kick of the second half and 10th of the match. Margiottello ran over to take the kick and was able to find the head of Bertucci, who was able to direct the ball past the goalie and it found the back of the net. It was Bertucci's first career goal.

Senior goalkeeper Jacqueline Zalis kept the Greyhounds in the game making three key saves. Moravian had a 19-7 advantage in shots on the afternoon.

Up next for the Hounds is their Landmark Conference opener versus Goucher College on the HUB Quad. That match will take place on Saturday, September 26 at 1:00 p.m.
