Women’s Soccer Drops Hard-Fought Conference Opener vs. Goucher

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's soccer team fell to Goucher College in the first Landmark Conference game of the 2015 season by a final score of 1-0 Saturday afternoon on the HUB Quad.

The first 45 minutes of play was up and down the field but neither team could find the back of the net. Both teams took four shots on goal, while the Hounds took a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks in the opening half.

The second half of play started off much stronger for the Greyhounds with senior midfielder Taylor Blake awarded a penalty kick just under a minute into the second half. Blake put a great shot on net but the Goucher goalie made the save.

Shortly after sophomore midfielder Brittney Peter put another two shots on net from close range but the goalie made the saves again. Goucher scored in the 77th minute on a ball the bounced over goalie Jacqueline Zalis. Moravian worked hard trying to find the back of the net over the next 13 minutes; however, the Hounds were not able to so.

Zalis made two saves over the course of the ninety minutes of play.

Next up for the Greyhounds is a non-conference road match at Haverford College on Wednesday, September 30 at 4:30 p.m.
