Women's Soccer Falls to Catholic in Landmark Conference Play

WASHINGTON D.C. --- The Moravian College women's soccer team dropped a tough Landmark Conference match to The Catholic University of America on a cold and windy day by a final score 1-0 Saturday afternoon.

The Greyhounds would find some early chances in the 8th minute with a good corner in by senior midfielder Brittany Nicoline, and then a chance shortly after by senior midfielder Taylor Blake that was saved by the Catholic goaltender. The Hounds would find more chances from Blake and senior midfielder Melissa Pavia, however none of the chances were on net. The Cardinals would strike with less than three minutes left in the first half to break the tie and take the lead.

In the second 45 minutes of play, the Hounds were able to try to gain some of the ground back that they had lost with chances coming off corner kicks by Nicoline and Pavia in the 60th and 64th minutes. Senior midfielder Catherine Lamplugh would blast another shot on net but it was again saved by the Catholic goaltender.

Senior goalkeeper Jacqueline Zalis made five saves on the day for the Hounds.

Up next for Moravian is a non-conference match versus DeSales University on Tuesday, October 6 at 3:45 p.m. on the HUB Quad.
