Hounds Fall in Non-Conference Match with DeSales

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's soccer team faced off against DeSales University Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action on the HUB Quad. The Bulldogs would end up winning the game by a final of 1-0.

In the first 45 minutes of play, both teams battled back-and-forth with great chances; however, none of them would find the back of the net. The Hounds had a great chance to score in the 7th minute off of a corner kick in by senior midfielder Brittany Nicoline. Off of Nicoline's ball, sophomore defender Lauren Bertucci was able to get her head on the ball and send it on net but the DeSales goalkeeper was able to make the save. Both the Hounds and Bulldogs ended the first half of play with three shots on net. Moravian would hold a 3-2 lead in corner kicks in the period.

In the second half, the Hounds found chances just under a minute into the period. Junior forward Valentina Margiottiello played the ball in off of a corner kick, where the team was able to possess the ball until senior defender Melissa Pavia was able to fire a shot just wide of the net. DeSales broke the 0-0 tie in the 56th minute to take the lead in the game.

The Hounds would continue to battle for the rest of the game however were unable to find the back of the net. Senior midfielder Catherine Lamplugh had the best chance to tie the game in the 87th minute when she fired a shot from about 20 yards away that sailed just high over the net.

In goal for Moravian was senior Jacqueline Zalis, who made five save on the day for the Hounds.

Up next for the Greyhounds is a Landmark Conference match versus Juniata College on Saturday, October 10 at 3:30 p.m. on the HUB Quad.
