Stelzmiller & Lawton Honored as Landmark Conference Women's Soccer Athletes of the Week

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College sophomore forward Gabby Stelzmiller has been selected the Landmark Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week while junior goalie Jessica Lawton has been honored as the Women's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week for their performances last week.

The duo helped the Greyhounds to a 2-0 record in Landmark Conference contests over he past seven days as the Hounds captured the second seed in the Landmark Conference Tournament with a 5-2 conference mark this fall.

Stelzmiller had both goals in Moravian's 2-0 win over Susquehanna University in the regular season finale. She netted a penalty kick in the 80th minute to break the scoreless tie, and Stelzmiller added her team-leading eighth goal of the season with just over a minute remaining to seal the victory.

"It's nice to see Gabby get rewarded for her hard work," stated Head Coach Jeff Ykoruk. "She has been great all season and has created a lot of opportunities for us in the attack."

Lawton, who was named the Landmark Conference Defensive Athlete of the Week for the third time this season, posted a pair of shutouts last week, and she made six saves in 184:32 minutes of action. She had two saves in a 1-0 overtime win at Goucher College last Wednesday to clinch a postseason berth, and Lawton added four saves in the victory over Susquehanna to clinch a home game. Lawton has not allowed a goal in three straight conference matches.

"Jess had another great week," Ykoruk said. "It was good to see her get two shutouts and help secure the playoff spot for us. She hasn't allowed a conference goal in three games and gives the team great leadership in the back."

Moravian, which is 9-6-1 overall, will host The Catholic University of America in a Landmark Conference Semifinal match on Tuesday, November 1 beginning at 7:00 p.m. at John Makuvek Field in Bethlehem. It is the first home conference playoff contest for the Greyhounds since the program won the Landmark title in 2008.
