BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's soccer team extended its shutout streak to 290 minutes to open the 2017 season as the Greyhounds blanked Stockton (N.J.) University, 1-0, on a rainy John Makuvek Field Wednesday evening.

"I thought the team battled in conditions that don't always favor our style of play," stated Head Coach Jeff Ykoruk. "Stockton is a well coached and physical team. I was proud of our ability to challenge for the 50/50 balls and keep them on their back foot. It was another total team effort and we look forward to building off of it."

Moravian, now 2-0-1 on the year, has recorded two regulation and one double-overtime clean sheet this fall. Sophomore Jamie Daly started in the goal and made one save in 45 minutes of action for the Greyhounds while senior Jessica Lawton did not face a shot on goal in the second half. It is the second shutout of the season the duo has combined on.

"Both Jamie and Jess played very well in the times they needed to and Juliana scored one of the best goals you will see," Ykoruk said. "Our back line was great again and continues to keep us in games."

Daly made her save in the 17th minute while Moravian's offense didn't register a shot on goal until the 43rd minute when sophomore midfielder Juliana Caranci put a shot on the keeper. Two minutes later, Caranci would net her first goal of the season when she drilled a rebound into the back of the net after a corner kick by senior defender Maria Manz with just 30 seconds left in the opening half.

Moravian, which had an 11-4 edge in shots and an 11-3 advantage in corner kicks, had two early shots in the second half to extend the lead with freshman defender Sara Cassel putting a shot on goal in the 50th minute and junior defender Shae Duka hitting the cross bar in the 52nd minute and junior forward Gabby Stelzmiller hitting the goalie with a shot in the 62nd minute.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, September 9 in a non-conference match at Alvernia University beginning at 3:30 p.m.
