Bertucci Named Landmark Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week

Lauren Bertucci '18 honored as Landmark Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week.

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College senior defender Lauren Bertucci has been named the Landmark Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week for her performance last week.

Bertucci helped lead the Greyhounds to a 2-0 record last week as the program improved to 5-0-1 on the season, the best start since the 1996 season when the program was 9-0-1 with nine consecutive shutouts after a 1-1 tie to start the year. The 2017 squad is one of four NCAA Division III schools that has not allowed a goal this fall, and Moravian has played 472 minutes without a goal against.

Bertucci played all 92:32 in the Greyhounds' 1-0 overtime win over rival Muhlenberg College last Wednesday evening as the Blue and Grey earned their first win over the Mules since 2013. Bertucci then scored the game-winning goal as she opened the scoring in the 14th minute of the Greyhounds' 5-0 win at the College of Mount Saint Vincent.

"Lauren had another great week for us," state Head Coach Jeff Ykoruk. "She is our anchor in the back and has been leading us on and off the field. I was excited to see her score and get game winning goal this weekend."

Moravian is slated to return to the pitch on Tuesday, September 19 in a non-conference match versus Albright College beginning at 7:00 p.m. on John Makuvek Field in Bethlehem.
