BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Sophomore midfielder Kristen Parry netted pair of goals in the first 16 minutes as the Moravian College women's soccer team posted a 4-0 win over Goucher College in Landmark Conference action Saturday afternoon on John Makuvek Field.
"I was very pleased with our result on a day where we didn't have a few key players," commented Head Coach Jeff Ykoruk. "Every player stepped up and it was a total team effort. I was happy to see Kristen finish a few and her first goal was as good as it gets."
Parry opened the scoring for Moravian, now 8-2-1 overall and 2-1 in Landmark Conference action, in the 13th minute with her first collegiate goal. Sophomore midfielder Juliana Caranci sent Parry in with a pass that she eventually blasted into the far left side of the net. Just over three and a half minutes later, Parry connected again as she tapped in a header from junior defender Shae Duka at the left side of the net after freshman defender Sara Cassel started the play with a free kick.
The Greyhounds would extend their lead to 3-0 just 1:40 before the intermission when freshman forward Cat Cole headed in a one-touch pass from senior forward Emily Crowley, who had touched over the entry pass from freshman midfielder Caitlyn Sugarman for Cole's second goal of the season.
The Hounds finished off the scoring in the 73rd minute when Sugarman netted her first career goal as she tapped in a shot after making a move around a defender. Moravian had an 18-10 edge in shots on the afternoon and an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks.
The Blue and Grey defense picked up the squad's ninth shutout of the season. Senior goalie Jessica Lawton made the start in goal and had two saves in the first 45 minutes of action for her second win of the season. Sophomore keeper Jamie Daly recorded four saves in the second half of the contest.
"Our back four did well defending and earned another shutout," noted Ykoruk. "Our staff can't say enough about another great performance from our keepers. They are leading us the right way and keeping us in every game."
The Greyhounds are slated to return to action on Wednesday, October 11 when the squad travels to Elizabethtown College for a Landmark Conference contest beginning at 7:00 p.m.
