Hounds Drop Hard-Fought, 1-0 Match at Catholic in Landmark Conference Action

WASHINGTON, D.C. --- The Moravian College women's soccer team fell to the Catholic University of America in Landmark Conference action by a score of 1-0 Saturday afternoon in the nation's capital.

The Greyhounds, now 8-4-1 overall and 2-3 in conference play, would take five shots in the first half of the match, and three would end up on goal. The first coming from junior forward Gabby Stelzmiller in the 16th minute. Twelve minutes later, the Cardinals would score the match's lone goal from inside the 6-yard box. Moravian's second opportunity came in the 33rd minute from senior defender Lauren Bertucci and Stelzmiller would get another shot on the keeper before the end of the half. Catholic took six shots in the second half, to Moravian's two shots, but the Greyhounds were unable to find the back of the net.

Senior keeper Jessica Lawton allowed the lone goal while playing the first 45 minutes of the match, and sophomore goalie Jamie Daly contributed one save in the second half. The Greyhounds finished the match with an 5-2 edge in corner kicks and were outshot 9-7 by Catholic.

Moravian is slated to return to action on Wednesday, October 18 when the squad heads to Ursinus College in a non-conference match beginning at 7:30 p.m.
