Bertucci Honored as Landmark Conference Women's Soccer Senior Scholar-Athlete

Lauren Bertucci '18 is selected as the 2017 Landmark Conference Women's Soccer Senior Scholar-Athlete.

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College senior defender Lauren Bertucci has been honored as the 2017 Landmark Conference Senior Scholar-Athlete for Women's Soccer.

The Landmark Conference selects 22 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics. The honorees must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, senior woman administrators and sports information directors. Chosen at the conclusion of each sport season, the six fall honorees are being announced this week.

"Lauren has been a standout student since her freshman year," commented Head Coach Jeff Ykoruk. "She is a very well rounded young lady and is one of the officers in the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. It is no easy task to have a 3.99 GPA while being involved in these organizations and being a student athlete. We applaud Lauren for her academic honors and hope that she is someone our underclassmen strive to be like."

Bertucci was selected as the 2017 Landmark Conference Defensive Player of the Year, and she earned a spot on the Landmark All-Conference Team for the fourth straight season and her second consecutive spot on the First Team after being on the Second Team as a freshman and sophomore. Bertucci had one goal in 2017 which was a game-winner, and she finished her career with three goals and an assist for seven points in 63 career matches including a pair of game-winning goals.

Off the field, Bertucci has maintained a 3.99 GPA in business management while minoring in Spanish and education. Bertucci has made Moravian's Dean's List six times, and she is a three-time selection to the Landmark Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll. This fall, Bertucci earned a spot on the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team and is currently on the ballot for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.

When she wasn't on the pitch or in class, Bertucci has been active around campus as well as off of it. She has served as part of Moravian's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee with one year as treasurer and two as secretary, been a member of Kappa Delta Pi, the international honor society in education, and Moravian STARS, which is a group of student alumni representatives, and the Alpha Sigma Tau sorority. Bertucci has also worked with the Greyhounds in a number of community service projects including spending time at the Boys & Girls Club of Bethlehem, Marvine Elementary School, the Cops 'n Kids reading program and helping to organize Moravian's Gold Game this past September to help raise money for Sarah's Fight for HOPE Foundation in support of pediatric cancer awareness.

Bertucci is Moravian's 24th Landmark Conference Senior Scholar-Athlete since the conference began in 2007-08, and she is the second women's soccer student-athlete to be honored, joining Kirsten Schall, who received the honor in 2014.
