Bertucci Selected to NCAA DIII Women's Soccer CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team

Lauren Bertucci '18 has been named to the 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team.

AUSTIN, Texas --- Moravian College senior defender Lauren Bertucci has been selected to the 2017 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America Women's Soccer Second Team for NCAA Division III schools.

"It is with great pride that I congratulate Lauren on this terrific accomplishment," commented Director of Athletics & Recreation Mary Beth Spirk. "Lauren embodies what a true Division III student athlete means. She continues to represent Moravian, the Athletic Department and the women's soccer team at the highest level on and off the field."

To be eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America® honors, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.30 grade-point average, be a sophomore, junior or senior and be a starter or significant reserve. Moravian has had 47 Greyhounds named CoSIDA Academic All-Americans®, and Bertucci is the third women's soccer player to receive the honor, joining Diana Feldmann, who was on the Second Team in 2011, and Erin Gonda, who made the Second Team in 2005.

Bertucci earned a spot on the national ballot after being named to the District IV CoSIDA All-District Team. District IV consists of all of the NCAA Division III Teams in Pennsylvania.

"We are extremely proud of Lauren and she works so hard to be a complete person," stated Head Coach Jeff Ykoruk. "Her academic success will leave a lasting impression on our program, athletic department and college."

Earlier this fall, Bertucci was honored as the 2017 Landmark Conference Defensive Player of the Year and named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team after helping the Greyhounds to a 9-6-1 record and just six goals allowed this past fall. The Hounds allowed just six goals this fall, the fewest in program history, with six 1-0 losses including two in overtime.

Bertucci was also selected to the Landmark All-Conference Team for the fourth straight season and her second consecutive spot on the First Team after being on the Second Team as a freshman and sophomore. In 2017, Bertucci netted one goal that was a game-winner, and she finished her four seasons at Moravian with three goals and an assist for seven points in 63 career matches including a pair of game-winning goals.

Off of the playing field, Bertucci was picked as the 2017 Landmark Conference Senior Scholar-Athlete and earned a spot on the Landmark Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll for the third straight season. She is majoring in business management at Moravian and has been highly involved in Greyhounds' Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, serving as both the treasurer and secretary during her four years. Bertucci helped coordinate the Hounds' game this past fall to help raise money for pediatric cancer and Sarah's Fight for HOPE Foundation.
