BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's soccer team jumped out to a first half lead and held off a late charge to earn a 2-1 victory over visiting Elizabethtown College in Landmark Conference action on John Makuvek Field Wednesday evening.

"It was a great overall team effort and win," stated Head Coach Jeff Ykoruk. "We focused on team defending and it all starts with our forwards and they put in the effort by pressuring and forcing back half turnovers.

"Our back four kept the leading goal scorer in the conference off the sheet and on a night where we needed our bench to keep the level high they came in and gave great minutes," continued Ykoruk. "It's a hard week with having mid-terms, and I was proud of them for how they focused and strong our warm up and start to the game went.

The Greyhounds would take a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute when sophomore midfielder Val Monaco knocked in a lead pass from senior forward Gabby Stelzmiller for her second goal of the season. Moravian extended its advantage to 2-0 in the 32nd minute when sophomore forward Oonagh Breen knocked in a quick rebound off of a shot by freshman midfielder Morgan Covart for Breen's second tally of the year. The match would remain 2-0 through the intermission

The Hounds were unable to add to their lead while the Blue Jays scored with just 18 seconds remaining to close the gap to a goal.

Greyhound sophomore goalie Siobhan O'Sullivan-Evangelista played the entire match, making a pair of saves. The Blue and Grey would also register a team save when junior defender Paige Weiss cleared a ball off of the goal line in the first half that had gotten past O'Sullivan-Evangelista.

Moravian will return to the pitch on Saturday, October 13 when the squad travels to Drew University for another Landmark Conference match beginning at 4:00 p.m. in Madison, New Jersey.
