Women's Soccer Clinches Playoff Berth with Shutout at Goucher

The women's soccer team clinched a berth in the 2018 Landmark Conference Tournament with a win at Goucher College.

TOWSON, Md. --- The Moravian College women's soccer team posted a 3-0 victory at Goucher College in Landmark Conference action Saturday afternoon, and with the Catholic University of America defeating Elizabethtown College, the Greyhounds earned the fourth seed in the 2018 Landmark Conference Tournament.

The Hounds, now 9-4-2 overall and 3-3-1 in Landmark Conference play, entered play on the final day of the regular season needing a win and Elizabethtown to do no better than a tie at Catholic to make the tournament, and the Cardinals topped the Blue Jays, 3-2.

"I'm very pleased with how the girls approached the game today," stated Head Coach Jeff Ykoruk. "They focused on the game plan and executed it extremely well. We got great leadership and performances from our seniors. I can't explain how happy our staff is to see the season extended for them. Defensively we were outstanding and was really proud of the shutout.

"Making the top four in a very competitive conference is a great accomplishment," Ykoruk continued. "The conference continues to get stronger each year and all of our hard work paid off."

The Greyhounds would break onto the scoreboard in the 27th minute when senior midfielder Aimee Manley knocked in a pass from senior forward Gabby Stelzmiller for her fourth goal of the season and fifth of her career. The assist was the 18th of Stelzmiller's career, tying for fourth in the record books and it also gave her 50 career points, becoming just the 11th women's soccer player to reach 50 points in school history.

Senior midfielder Shae Duka added an unassisted goal in the 32nd minute, her fourth of the year and fifth of her career, as the Hounds lead 2-0 at the intermission. Freshman forward Megan Chesney netted her team-leading seventh goal in the 53rd minute to finish off the scoring.

Sophomore goalie Siobhan O'Sullivan-Evangelista recorded one save for her second shutout of the season and third of her career.

The fourth seeded Greyhounds will head to top seed The University of Scranton for a Landmark Conference Semifinal on Tuesday, October 30 beginning at 7:00 p.m.
