Women's Tennis Tops DeSales In 2016-17 Home Opener

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's tennis team won its second straight match to begin the 2016-17 season as the Greyhounds defeated DeSales University, 8-1, in non-conference action at Hoffman Courts Tuesday in the Hounds' first home match of the year.

The Blue and Grey swept the doubles action to jump out to a 3-0 lead. Seniors Brittney Eady and Roberta Scantlebury posted an 8-1 win at first doubles while senior Aisling Doyle and junior Caitlin Adams earned an 8-2 victory at third doubles. Moravian finished off the sweep with freshmen Eiman Nazif and Lauren Steinert posting an 8-6 triumph at second doubles.

The Greyhounds won five of the six singles contests to finish off the match. Nazif was the first off of the courts with a 6-2, 6-1 win at second singles while Eady earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory at first singles to clinch the winning team point. Adams posted a 6-4, 6-0 win at fourth singles while sophomore Kate Rennar had a 6-4, 6-2 triumph at sixth singles as the next player off of the courts. Steinert earned Moravian's final point with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at third singles while Doyle forced a third set in her fifth singles contest.

The Hounds are scheduled to return to action on Saturday and Sunday, September 24-25 at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southeast Regional Tournament at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
