Greyhounds Hold Off Muhlenberg for 5-4 Win in Final Non-Conference Match of 2016-17

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's tennis team held off a rally in singles action to defeat rival Muhlenberg College, 5-4, at Hoffman Courts Thursday as the Hounds played their final non-conference contest of the year.

The Greyhounds, who are now 7-5 on the season, led 2-1 after doubles action. After falling behind, the tandem of sophomore Kate Rennar and freshman Emily Snyder earned an 8-5 victory at third doubles to even the score at 1-1. Freshmen Eiman Nazif and Lauren Steinert combined for an 8-5 win in their first, first doubles match of the year to give Blue and Grey a 2-1 advantage.

Nazif earned a win by retirement at second singles that gave the Greyhounds a 3-1 edge as singles action got underway. However, the Mules won in straight sets at first and third singles to tie the contest at 3-3. Snyder would give Moravian the lead back with a straight sets victory at sixth singles only to see Muhlenberg tie the match again at 4-4 with a win at fourth singles. Junior Grace Bailly won the first set of her fifth singles match before dropping the second set. In the third set, Bailly posted a 6-0 win to take the set and win the contest for the Greyhounds.

"The ladies team achieved a great victory considering we were down our number one player," stated Head Coach Alan Heverly. "Grace came through under enormous pressure and never left a doubt in the third set. It was a really good win for the team."

Moravian is slated to return to action on Wednesday, April 19 in a Landmark Conference match at Elizabethtown College beginning at 4:00 p.m.
