Greyhounds Clinch Berth in Landmark Conference Women's Tennis Tournament with 5-4 Win over Catholic

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's tennis team clinched the third seed in the 2017 Landmark Conference Tournament with a 5-4 victory over The Catholic University of America Saturday at Hoffman Courts.

The Greyhounds, who are now 10-6 overall and finish the Landmark Conference regular season at 5-2, will now travel to second seed Elizabethtown College on Wednesday, May 3 for a Semifinal match beginning at 4:00 p.m. The Blue Jays won the regular season match-up, 6-3.

"As they have done the entire season, the women's team displayed grace under pressure," stated Head Coach Alan Heverly. "All the players had a lot of heart in their matches. It was truly a team."

Moravian had a 2-1 lead after the doubles action against the Cardinals, who needed a win to clinch a playoff berth and keep the Blue and Grey out of the postseason. After falling behind 1-0, senior Brittney Eady and junior Skylar Oliwa earned an 8-2 win at first doubles to tie the match. The victory was the 47th of Eady's career, moving her into a tie for second in school history. Sophomore Kate Rennar and freshman Emily Snyder finished third doubles with an 8-4 win to give Moravian its lead.

The Greyhounds would fall behind in singles as the Cardinals won the first two contests to finish at second and fifth singles; however, Eady's 51st career win at singles by a score of 6-4, 6-3, tied the contest at 3-3. Catholic moved ahead again with a win at fourth singles but freshman Eiman Nazif earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory at third singles to send the match to the final contest tied at 4-4. Junior Grace Bailly would send the Greyhounds to the postseason with a 6-4, 6-1 at sixth singles.
