Hounds Top Drew, 5-4, in Landmark Conference Match

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's tennis team posted a 5-4 victory over visiting Drew University in Landmark Conference action on Hoffman Courts Thursday afternoon.

The Greyhounds, now 10-2 overall and 5-1 in Landmark Conference play, led the contest 2-1 after doubles action. Freshmen Brooke Adams and Kristen Cassidy were the first to come off of the courts with an 8-3 win at second doubles. After the Rangers tied the contest, sophomore Lauren Steinert and freshman Mary Angle earned a 9-7 victory at third doubles to give Moravian the lead.

The Hounds pushed the advantage to 3-1 with a straight-sets win by Cassidy at second singles, 6-2, 6-2 while Angle made it 4-1 with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph at fourth singles. Steinert clinched the winning team point with a 6-0, 7-5 win at fifth singles to give the Blue and Grey a 5-1 edge. Drew ended up winning the final three singles matches with both Adams and freshman Emma Angle going to three sets in their contests at third and first singles.

The Greyhounds are slated to close out the 2018 Landmark Conference season on Saturday, April 28 when Moravian hosts Elizabethtown College in a match beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Hoffman Courts. The Hounds, who have already clinched a berth in the Landmark Conference Tournament, can earn the second seed and the right to host a semifinal contest on Tuesday, May 1 with a win on Saturday.
