TOWSON, Md. --- The Moravian University women's tennis team dropped a hard-fought 5-4 decision at Goucher College in Landmark Conference action Sunday.
How It Happened
- The Greyhounds scored the first point of the afternoon with an 8-4 victory at second doubles from the tandem of juniors Maddie Figiel and Cristina Merone. However, the Gophers won at first and third doubles to take a 2-1 lead
- Figiel evened the match at 2-2 with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at third singles while Goucher moved back ahead with a victory at first singles. Sophomore Mara Stapleton tied the contest again at 3-3 as she posted a 6-2, 7-5 win at sixth singles. Once again, the Gophers retook the lead with a three-set victory at second singles
- Merone made it 4-4 after she recorded a 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 victory at fourth singles to leave the fifth singles match to decide the contest. Freshman Rose Lombardo won the first set in the final match, 6-4, before falling, 6-4, 6-4 in the final two sets as the Gophers earned the victory
