Greyhounds Open 2011-12 Indoor Season at Non-Scoring Lehigh University Season Opener

Greyhounds Open 2011-12 Indoor Season at Non-Scoring Lehigh University Season Opener

Moravian began the 2011-12 season at the seven-team, non-scoring Lehigh University Season Opener. The Greyhounds had one individual first place finish in the meet and four ECAC Division III qualifiers including three in the pole vault. Senior Abby Schaffer captured the pole vault at the meet for a second straight year, clearing an ECAC Division III qualifying height of 3.71 meters (12 feet, two inches). Schaffer, the defending NCAA Division III National Champion, would have likely qualified for the NCAA meet in the past with the height, but a change in the NCAA took out the automatic and provisional qualifying marks and instead will take the top 13 females in each event to the 2012 Indoor National Championships in March.

Sophomore Allison Vanek also qualified for the ECAC meet with a second place height of 3.45 meters (11 feet, 3 3/4 inches) while senior Lauren Molchan hit an ECAC qualifying mark with a third place finish of 3.30 meters (ten feet, ten inches). Freshman Dana Fineman was seventh in the pole vault at 2.85 meters (nine feet, 4 1/4 inches). In the triple jump, junior Micah Leonard was third with an ECAC qualifying distance of 10.88 meters (35 feet, 8 1/2 inches) while freshman Hailey Kester took ninth at 9.85 meters (32 feet, 3 3/4 inches) and freshman Giana Vecchio finished tenth at 9.75 meters (32 feet).

Senior Brittany Moses took fourth in the 20-pound weight throw with a toss of 13.52 meters (44 feet, 4 1/4 inches) for the Greyhounds while freshman Allissa Hoffman placed tenth at 8.24 meters (27 feet, 1/2 inch). Moses was also sixth in the shot put with a toss of 10.11 meters (33 feet, two inches) while freshman Jenny Kratch took seventh at 10.00 meters (32 feet, 9 3/4 inches) and Hoffman finished ninth at 9.43 meters (30 feet, 11 1/4 inches). Due to the nice weather, the teams went outside at the beginning of the meet and threw the javelin with Hoffman placing fourth at 28.75 meters (94 feet, four inches).

On the track, freshman Morgan Redmond was fourth in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.78 seconds while Leonard took fifth in 9.85 seconds. Freshman Brianna Wright was ninth in a time of 10.69 seconds while sophomore Jacqueline Olmstead took tenth at 10.81 seconds. Freshman Brielle Sutter paced the Greyhounds in the 200-meter dash with a fourth place finish of 27.36 seconds while senior Lisa Williamson finished fifth in 27.45 seconds. Redmond also finished sixth in the 400-meter dash in 1:03.01. Williamson, Redmond, Wright and Sutter ran the 4x400-meter relay and placed sixth in a time of 4:22.45.
