Women Hit 4 ECAC Marks at Coach P Open

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's track & field team hosted the annual Coach P Open in memory of former Head Coach Doug Pollard on Friday and Saturday at Timothy Breidegam Track and Rocco Calvo Field.

The Greyhounds had four ECAC qualifiers in the meet led by the 4x100-meter relay squad of juniors Brielle Sutter, Brianna Wright and Morgan Redmond and sophomore Corinne Glass that placed third in 48.45 seconds, one of three times faster than the previous meet record. Their time also puts the quartet into a tie for ninth in the nation on the Track & Field Results Reporting System in the event. The top 20 men and 22 women in each event will compete at the 2014 NCAA Division III National Championships at Ohio Wesleyan University in late May.

Sutter also had an ECAC qualifying mark in the 400-meter dash as she finished fifth in 57.57 seconds. She also placed fifth in the 200-meter dash in 26.20 seconds while Redmond was fourth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:06.33, missing the ECAC mark by 16 hundredths of a second.

Wright was third in the preliminaries of the 100-meter sash in 12.71 seconds, and she was also third in the finals in 12.66 seconds, missing the ECAC qualifying mark by one-hundredth of a second. Glass was ninth in the 100-meter dash in 12.88 seconds and ninth in the 200-meter dash in 26.28 seconds.

Junior Devon Bedell had an ECAC time of 11:58.05 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, good enough for a third-place finish. Freshman Erin Love was fourth in the race in 12:30.28 while junior Alyssa Tallon was ninth in 13:30.03.

Junior Jessie Goldberg was second in the 10,000-meter run Friday evening in 41:53.40 while junior Emily Lambright was sixth in the 1,500-meter run in 4:52.10, and she was followed by freshman Sarah Hughes was 10th in 5:13.69.

Junior Jenny Kratch had the team's top result in the field events as she placed second in the hammer throw Friday evening with a personal record and ECAC qualifying toss of 45.08 meters (147 feet, 11 inches) in the rain on her second throw of the finals.

Freshman Jackie Finnegan was seventh in the discus throw with a toss of 35.26 meters (115 feet, eight inches), and she also placed 10th in the hammer with a distance of 32.77 meters (107 feet, six inches). Sophomore Tyler Clore was eighth in the javelin with a toss of 35.53 meters (116 feet, seven inches).

Juniors Hailey Kester and Dana Fineman were both tied for seventh in the pole vault at 3.20 meters (10 feet, six inches) while senior Amanda Smilgis was tied for ninth at 3.05 meters (10 feet).

Freshman Casey Raymond  was 10th in the long jump at 5.00 meters (16 feet, five inches).

Moravian is scheduled to return to action with its second straight home meet as the squad hosts the Greyhound Invitational on Friday and Saturday, April 18 and 19. Action will begin on Friday at 4:00 p.m. and resume on Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
