Cheong Breaks 23-Year-Old High Jump School Record at ECAC Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. --- The Moravian College women's track & field team finished its trip to the 2015 ECAC Division III Outdoor Championships hosted by Springfield (Mass.) College on Friday.

The Hounds finished in 50th of the 56 teams that scored points with four while the Massachusetts Institute of Technology won the title with 64 points.

Freshman Melissa Cheong led the Greyhounds by setting a school record in the high jump, clearing 1.65 meters (5-5) as she tied for fifth in the meet with two other jumpers to earn three points. Cheong breaks the mark in the high jump that was originally set by Krisa Murray in 1992 and tied twice since. Cheong is now 26th on the Track & Field Results Reporting System list, just outside of the number needed to qualify for next week's NCAA Division III National Championships with the top 22 females and top 20 males in each individual event set to compete. The national field will be announced on Sunday morning.

Moravian's other point came from senior Jenny Kratch, who placed eighth in the discus with a toss of 38.43 meters (126-1) in her final collegiate competition. Freshman Ciara Stewart had a mark of 11.20 meters (36-9) in the shot put.

On the track, senior Morgan Redmond placed 11th in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.82. Redmond's top time of 1:02.58 is currently 21st on the TFRRS list. Junior Corinne Glass turned in a time of 25.95 seconds to place 15th in the 200-meter dash, and Glass also had a time of 59.10 seconds in the 400-meter dash.
