Women's Indoor Track and Field Selected to Repeat as Landmark Champions

TOWSON, Md. --- The 2015-16 Moravian College women's indoor track and field team was selected first in the Landmark Conference Preseason poll as chosen by the rest of the conference.

The Hounds return 28 athletes from last year's Landmark Conference Championship team as well as another 11 freshman to the squad for depth.

The team returns multiple All-Conference performers from the 2014-15 Conference Championship team. Sophomore Melissa Cheong won the high jump last season and placed second in the 60-meter hurdles and the long jump and while being named the 2014-15 Rookie of the Year. The team also returns First Team Athletes Corinne Glass and Christelle Reglas while Kiara Bright and Beth Ann Davies were both Second Team honorees.

"We took a huge senior loss last year, graduating three athletes who had qualified for the NCAAs, and numerous other key contributors who had won Landmark titles or qualified for ECACs," stated Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "That creates a tough challenge for us to overcome. Fortunately we have some good experience and depth along with some talented freshmen. We're getting some people back who were injured during cross country and had some others with their best seasons ever. We just had a sprint workout this past week which gave us some extremely encouraging signs that we have runners who can make huge strides forward this year. Some of the initial work with our jumpers and throwers has been really encouraging as well so we're really optimistic about the potential of this group.

"I know we were picked first for both genders but that doesn't mean much to us. The respect is nice, but it still doesn't mean much," said Baumann. "Most importantly, although we have good talent, it means absolutely nothing if we don't make a daily commitment to getting better, not just on the track, but outside of practice as well. It's something we really stress as coaches.  If our team can make that daily commitment to the process then I think we could have some success in the Championship season, but we'll just have to see how things go over the next few months."

The Greyhounds will compete in their first meet of the season at Lehigh University for the Fast Times Before Finals meet on Friday, December 4 and Saturday, December 5.
