Cheong & Glass Win Events at 24th Annual John Covert Classic

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College sophomore Melissa Cheong set both the Greyhound and Landmark Conference record while winning the high jump and senior Corinne Glass captured first place in the 200-meter dash to lead the Hounds at the non-scoring 24th Annual John Covert Classic hosted by Lehigh University Saturday at Rauch Fieldhouse.

Cheong won the high jump with an ECAC qualifying mark of 1.68 meters (5-6) to break both the school and conference records as the height moved her into a tie for sixth on the Track & Field Results Reporting System list in the event. The top 17 student-athletes in each event will qualify for the NCAA Division III National Championships in March. Glass won the 200-meter dash in 26.52 seconds, and she was also the runner-up in the 400-meter dash in 1:00.09. Cheong placed tenth in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.63 seconds.

Junior Jackie Finnegan took third in the 20-pound weight throw with an ECAC qualifying toss of 14.41 meters (47-3.5) while senior Abbey Clark was eighth at 13.30 meters (43-7.75). Clark also placed ninth in the shot put with a mark of 10.90 meters (35-9.5) while sophomore Ciara Stewart was eighth at 11.32 meters (37-1.75).

Sophomore Carly Thorpe finished sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 10.35 meters (33-11.5), and junior Kiara Bright was seventh in the event at 10.30 meters (33-9.5). Sophomore Beth Ann Davies was eighth in the pole vault at 3.20 meters (10-6).

Junior Lauren White finished seventh in the 60-meter dash in 8.22 seconds while freshman Amari Schooler was tenth in 8.28 seconds. Freshman Maike Krischer was tenth in the 400-meter dash in 1:04.17 while junior Meg Brockett placed ninth in the mile run with a time of 5:24.86.

Moravian is slated to return to action at the Susquehanna University Invitational in Selinsgrove on Saturday, February 6.
