Duncan Wins Javelin on Opening Day of 2016 ECAC DIII Outdoor Championships

WESTFIELD, Mass. --- The Moravian College women's track & field team is in third place of 45 teams after the opening day of competition Wednesday at the 2016 ECAC Division III Outdoor Championships being hosted by Westfield State University.

The Greyhounds scored 15 points, trailing leader Ithaca College by 17.5 points. The Hounds received 10 points from sophomore Mary Kate Duncan who won the opening event with a toss of 44.28 meters (145-3) in the javelin. Moravian's other five points came off of a fourth place finish by junior Meg Brockett in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 38:32.16.

Senior Corinne Glass advanced to the finals of the 100-meter dash after placing eighth in Wednesday's preliminary with a time of 12.35 seconds. The Greyhounds 4x400-meter relay squad of freshmen Anna Osman, Maike Krischer and Tamara Suchan and sophomore Monica Richardson placed tenth in 4:04.04 while sophomore Melissa Cheong was 28th in the 100-meter hurdle preliminaries in 16.13 seconds.

Sophomore Beth Ann Davies was 15th in the pole vault, clearing 3.16 meters (10-4.25) while sophomore Nicole Capuano was 25th in the javelin at 30.24 meters (99-2). Junior Jackie Finnegan finished 26th in the hammer throw with a toss of 42.12 meters (138-2).

Action on the second and final day of the 2016 ECAC Division III Outdoor Championships is slated to begin at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 19 at Westfield State University.
