Clark Selected as Landmark Conference Senior Scholar-Athlete for Women's Outdoor Track & Field

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College's Abbey Clark has been named the 2016 Landmark Conference Senior Scholar-Athlete for Women's Outdoor Track & Field.

The Landmark Conference selects 20 senior scholar-athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics. The honorees must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors and sports information directors. Chosen at the conclusion of each sport season, the eight spring honorees are being announced last week and this week.

"Abbey is well deserving of this award," commented Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "She's been incredibly involved with her major participating in internships including a new project recently started by an alum on campus. She has a strong GPA, balanced a number of other academic requirements, and has done great as an athlete here, qualifying for ECACs and winning the shot put earlier this month at the Landmark meet. Coach Jon D'Ottavio and I certainly wish we had another two years with her."

Clark completed her Bachelor's degree in graphic design this month while finishing her final year of athletic eligibility for the Greyhounds.

This spring, Clark helped Moravian capture its ninth consecutive Landmark Conference Outdoor Championship, and the squad also won its ninth straight Landmark Conference Indoor Title back in February.

Clark, who transferred to Moravian after two years at Mohawk Valley Community College, was the Landmark Conference Champion in the shot put outdoors this spring with a career-best toss of 11.63 meters (38-2), and she placed eighth in the hammer with a mark of 35.63 meters (119-10). At this past winter's indoor championship meet, Clark was second in the 20-pound weight throw with a toss of 13.81 meters (45-3.75) to earn Landmark All-Conference honors, and she was fourth in the shot put at 11.07 meters (36-4).

Clark was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society at Moravian, and she was named to the Dean's List in two of her four semesters in Bethlehem.
