Cheong Posts Two of Greyhounds Five ECAC Qualifiers at Lehigh Fast Times Before Finals

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's indoor track & field team recorded five ECAC qualifying marks at the non-scoring Lehigh University Fast Times Before Finals meet at Rauch Fieldhouse Saturday with junior Melissa Cheong posting a pair of those ECAC qualifying marks.

Cheong was third in the 60-meter hurdle finals in an ECAC qualifying time of 9.43 seconds, and she was fifth in the long jump with an ECAC qualifying leap of 5.19 meters (17-0.5). Freshman Katie Mayer also had an ECAC qualifying time on the track as she finished fifth in the 1,000-meter run in 3:12.13.

Senior Jackie Finnegan hit the ECAC qualifying mark in the 20-pound weight throw with a toss of 14.58 meters (47-10), the fifth best throw in school history, to finish fourth in the event, and junior Maggie Heft had a toss of 13.38 meters (43-10.75) to finish eighth. Heft also finished ninth in the shot put with a mark of 10.28 meters (33-8.75).

Junior Casie Cronk had an ECAC qualifying height of 1.55 meters (5-1) as she tied for fourth in the high jump while sophomore Sarah DeFranco was tenth in the long jump at 4.14 meters (13-7). Senior Kiara Bright was seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 10.31 meters (33-10) while junior Carly Thorpe was tenth at 9.87 meters (32-4.75).

Cheong reached the finals of the 60-meter hurdles after a time of 9.53 seconds in the preliminaries, which was tied for the fourth fastest time, and sophomore Amari Schooler was eighth in the preliminary races in 9.61 seconds. The 4x400-meter relay squad of junior Monica Richardson, sophomores Anna Osman and Danielle Tomko and freshman Lily Cooper placed ninth in a time of 4:20.05.

In action Friday evening, junior Beth Ann Davies tied for ninth in the pole vault, clearing 3.05 meters (10-0).

Moravian is slated to have over a month off before the Greyhounds return to action at the Great Dane Classic being competed at the Ocean Breeze Complex in Staten Island, New York on Saturday, January 14, 2017.
