Women Win Six Events to Start Outdoor Season at Lafayette 7-Way Meet

EASTON, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's track & field team began the 2017 outdoor season at the Lafayette College 7-Way Meet Saturday at the Metzger Athletic Complex.

The Greyhounds finished second of four schools in the NCAA Division II/Division III scoring of the meet with 175 points and the Blue and Grey had six event winners. Moravian scored points for each top six finish in the meet.

Junior Trista Cunningham won the hammer throw with an ECAC qualifying toss of 43.61 meters (143-1) while junior Mary Kate Duncan captured the javelin with an ECAC qualifying distance of 43.02 meters (141-2). Junior Melissa Cheong won the long jump with a leap of 5.05 meters (16-7) and she tied for first in the high jump at 1.55 meters (5-1). Senior Kiara Bright won the triple jump with a distance of 10.01 meters (32-10.25). Senior Larissa Strycharz won the 5,000-meter run in a time of 20:20.23.

Senior Jackie Finnegan was the runner-up in the hammer throw with an ECAC qualifying mark of 43.56 meters (142-11) while junior Maggie Heft was third at 40.91 meters (134-3). Junior Nicole Capuano was the runner-up in the javelin at an ECAC qualifying mark of 37.78 meters (123-11) while junior Ciara Stewart finished fifth in the shot out at 10.67 meters (35-0.25). Cunningham was also fourth in the discus with a toss of 35.76 meters (117-4) while Finnegan placed sixth at 31.87 meters (104-7).

Junior Casie Cronk was third in the high jump at 1.55 meters (5-1) while junior Carly Thorpe placed fourth in the triple jump at 9.73 meters (31-11.25). Bright (was fourth in the long jump at 4.40 meters (14-5.25) while senior Rebecca Flitcroft placed sixth at 4.21 meters (13-9.75).

Freshman Lily Cooper was the runner-up in the 100-meter dash in 13.21 seconds while senior Lauren White took fourth in 13.28 seconds. Cooper was also second in the 200-meter dash in a time of 27.48 seconds. Sophomore Monica Richardson was fourth in the 400-meter dash in 1:03.86 while freshman Danielle Tomko placed fifth in 1:03.96.

Sophomore Amari Schooler was second in the 100-meter hurdles in an ECAC qualifying time of 15.55 seconds while Cheong placed third in 16.15 seconds.

Freshman Carly Danoski was third in the 1,5000-meter run in 4:54.35 while freshman Katie Mayer finished fifth in 4:57.41. Junior Kirsten Lebo placed fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 14:03.01 while freshman Marlee Hornbaker was the runner-up in the 5,000-meter run in 21:17.48.

Moravian's 4x100-meter relay team of White, Schooler, Cooper and sophomore Abigail Strouse was second in 50.36 seconds. The Hounds 4x400-meter relay squad of Danoski, Mayer and freshmen Ashley Rohrer and Shayne McNally placed fourth in 4:35.93.

The Greyhounds are slated to return to action at the Muhlenberg College Invitational on Saturday, April 1 beginning at 10:00 a.m.
