Cunningham & Schooler Honored as Landmark Conference Women's Track & Field Athletes of the Week

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College senior thrower Trista Cunningham and sophomore hurdler/sprinter Amari Schooler have been honored as the Landmark Conference Women's Track and Field Athletes of the Week for their performances this past Saturday.

The duo helped the Greyhounds finish second of four teams in the NCAA Division II/Division III portion of the Lafayette College 7-Way Meet to begin the outdoor season.

Cunningham won the hammer throw in the NCAA DII/DIII portion of the meet with an ECAC qualifying toss of 43.61 meters (143-1). Cunningham was also fourth in the discus with a toss of 35.76 meters (117-4), and she placed ninth in the shot put at 9.47 meters (31-1).

"We're happy to have Trista back because she's an incredible athlete who already has, and can continue to help our program in so many ways," stated Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "She's brings a great positive energy to our throws group and she's obviously a talented athlete as well. She had a huge PR in the hammer this weekend and had one of her better throws in the discus so far this season. We're in a pretty intense training block with our throwers right now, so it's really impressive that she popped off two big marks already."

Schooler was second in the 100-meter hurdles in the NCAA DII/DIII meet in an ECAC qualifying time of 15.55 seconds, and she also ran the second leg of Moravian's 4x100-meter relay squad that finished second in 50.36 seconds.

"Amari finished off the indoor season on a high note with some enormous improvements in the hurdles the last few weeks, in particular up at ECACs," Baumann said. "Although it's not surprising to see her continue to excel in the hurdles, it's still gratifying to see her ascension in the event. She's been improving with her technique especially getting her lead leg down quickly. With some slightly warmer conditions and no head wind she'll post some excellent times later on this season, but she's already starting off with some big PRs

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, April 1 at the Muhlenberg College Invitational beginning at 10:00 a.m.
