Moravian Women Post Seven ECAC Marks at Coach P Open

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's track & field squad hosted the 8th Annual Coach P Invitational Friday and Saturday at Timothy Breidegam Track and Rocco Calvo Field in memory of long time head coach Doug Pollard with a number of alumni competing in the meet.

The Greyhounds turned in seven ECAC qualifying marks and had one event winner with junior Mary Kate Duncan capturing the javelin with a meet record, PR and ECAC qualifying toss of 45.42 meters (149-0), the tenth best throw in school history and the second best on the Track & Field Results Reporting System list with the top 22 females in each event heading to the NCAA Division III Championships at the University of Mount Union on May 25-27.

Junior Nicole Capuano was fourth in the javelin with an ECAC qualifying mark of 36.81 meters (120-9). Junior Trista Cunningham was eighth in the discus with a toss of 35.32 meters (115-10) while senior Jackie Finnegan was tenth at 32.38 meters (106-3).

Junior Melissa Cheong tied for third in the high jump with an ECAC qualifying mark of 1.60 meters (5-3), which is tied for 17th in the TFRRS list, and Cheong finished fourth in the long jump with an ECAC qualifying distance of 5.54 meters (18-2.25). Junior Casie Cronk was seventh in the high jump at 1.55 meters (5-1) while junior Beth Ann Davies was seventh in the pole vault at a height of 2.90mmeters (9-6.25).

Freshman Lily Cooper was sixth in the 100-meter dash finals in 12.75 seconds to reach the finals while sophomore Abigail Strouse was ninth in the preliminaries in a time of 13.03 seconds. Cooper also finished fifth in the 200-meter dash in 26.15 seconds. Sophomore Amari Schooler was sixth in the 100-meter hurdles with an ECAC qualifying time of 15.40 in the finals after a 15.33 second time in the preliminaries.

Freshman Carly Danoski took third in the 800-meter run in an ECAC qualifying time of 2:19.80 while freshman Katie Mayer took third in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 18:47.03. Junior Kirsten Lebo took seventh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 13:06.92 while Moravian's 4x400-meter relay squad of Cronk, sophomores Tamara Suchan and Danielle Tomko and freshman Shania Alotta finished tenth in 4:28.15.

In action Friday evening, Finnegan placed third in the hammer throw with an ECAC qualifying toss of 45.27 meters (148-6) while junior Maggie Heft took seventh at 39.68 meters (130-2) and Cunningham was ninth at 38.93 meters (127-9). Freshman Marlee Hornbaker finished fourth in the 10,000-meter run in 44:01.31.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Friday and Saturday, April 14-15 when Moravian hosts the Annual Greyhound Invitational at Timothy Breidegam Track and Rocco Calvo Field. Action will begin at 3:30 p.m. on Friday and 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
