Duncan Wins Javelin as Greyhounds are 2nd after Opening Day of 2017 ECAC DIII Championship

WESTFIELD, Mass. --- The Moravian College women's track & field team is in second place after the opening day of competition in the 2017 ECAC Division III Outdoor Championships being hosted by Westfield State University.

The Greyhounds scored 33 points on the first day of the meet and trail Misericordia University by four points.

The Hounds picked up 18 points in the javelin with junior Mary Kate Duncan taking first place with a PR of 45.82 meters (150-4) and junior Nicole Capuano in second with a PR of 40.45 meters (132-8) by nearly two full meters. Duncan's throw is the second best in the nation this season while Capuano's throw is 25th on the Track & Field Results Reporting System list. The top 22 women in each event will compete at the NCAA Division III National Championships being hosted by the University of Mount Union on May 25-27.

The Greyhounds would add another 15 points in the hammer throw with senior Jackie Finnegan in second place at 47.86 meters (157-0), junior Trista Cunningham taking fourth at a PR distance of 46.85 meters (153-8) and junior Maggie Heft in seventh with a toss of 43.10 meters (141-5).

Freshman Lily Cooper finished ninth in the preliminaries of the 100-meter dash in a PR of 12.48 seconds, missing the finals by seven hundredths of a second.

Day two of the 2017 ECAC Division III Outdoor Championships will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 18 at Westfield State's Jerry Gravel Track.
