Cunningham Wins Discus as Hounds Finish Second at 2017 ECAC DIII Outdoor Championships

WESTFIELD, Mass. --- The Moravian College women's track & field team finished second at the 2017 ECAC Division III Outdoor Championships hosted by Westfield State University after the second and final day of competition Thursday.

The Greyhounds picked up 49 points on the second day to finish with a team score of 84 points, just 17 points behind champion Misericordia University and nine points ahead of Penn State-Behrend. A total of 28 teams scored a point during the meet.

Junior Trista Cunningham picked up ten points Thursday as she won the discus with a PR of 38.51 meters (126-4), winning the event by just one centimeter. Senior Jackie Finnegan took seventh in the discus at 34.37 meters (112-9) to add another two team points.

Junior Casie Cronk placed second in the high jump with a PR of 1.64 meters (5-4.5), which is also the second best height in school history, while junior Melissa Cheong was third at 1.59 meters (5-2.5) as the duo scored 14 points. Cheong also added two points in the long jump with a leap of 5.07 meters (16-7.75).

Sophomore Amari Schooler picked up sixth points with a third place finish in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 15.50 seconds, and Schooler combined with senior Lauren White, sophomore Abigail Strouse and freshman Lily Cooper to finish third in the 4x100-meter relay with a season-best time of 48.59 seconds and earn another six points. Cooper also placed ninth in the 200-meter dash in 25.87 seconds.

Freshman Carly Danoski scored another six points for the Hounds with a third place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:15.97, the fifth fastest time in school history, while sophomore Anna Osman placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:06.29 as she picked up five points for Moravian.

Moravian will wrap up its 2017 season next weekend at the 2017 NCAA Division III National Championships being hosted by the University of Mount Union from May 25-27. The qualifiers for the meet will be announced on Saturday, May 20 on ncaa.com.
