Greyhounds Compete Strong & Take 3rd at the Collegeville Classic

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's track and field team competed the Collegeville Classic at Ursinus College on Saturday where the women were third of 20 schools.

The women, who scored 61 points and were 16 points behind first place Haverford College, had a pair of first place finishes including senior Beth Ann Davies in the pole vault at a height of 3.05 meters (10-0) and freshman Martha Thorpe in the triple jump with a distance of 10.94 meters (35-10.75). Senior Carly Thorpe was awarded sixth place in the triple jump in a distance of 9.82 meters (32-2.75) and rounding out the field in the event was freshman Janessa Ternosky in a distance of 9.78 meters (32-1) putting her in eighth place.

In the women's shot-put, freshman Layne Morgan placed third with a distance of 11.03 meters (36-2.25) while senior Maggie Heft threw 10.01 meters (32-10.25) for ninth place. Senior Melissa Cheong placed fourth in the long jump with a distance of 5.09 meters (16-8.5) followed by freshman Jenevieve Eberly coming in eighth in a distance of 4.89 meters (16-0.5) and junior Jordan Luciano in tenth place with a leap of 4.77 meters (15-7.75).

In the 5,000-meter run, freshman Nora Grimm placed sixth in a time of 21:54.29. In the mile run, sophomore Carly Danoski placed sixth in time of 5:29.44 while fellow teammates sophomore Katie Mayer ran 5:35.80 for eighth place and in ninth place was freshman Molly Talarico in 5:46.66.

Junior Amari Schooler placed third in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 9.55 while sophomore Lily Cooper placed 12th in the finals 60-meter dash. In the 400-meter dash, junior Anna Osman took fifth in a time of 1:04.24 while senior Sarah Hughes placed sixth in a time of 2:34.55 in the 800-meter run.

Junior Ashley Rohrer recorded a time of 11:49.08 to put her in tenth place in the 3,000-meter run. The "A" 4x400-meter relay came in fourth place in a time of 4:27.29 and included Osman, Eberly, freshman Cat Cole and sophomore Meghan Lazarchak while the "B" team of Danoski, Mayer, Hughes and Talarico ran a time of 4:30.47 to put them in fifth place.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, January 27 at the Lehigh University Covert Classic.
