Women Take 1st Among DII/DIII Teams & Win 10 Events at Lafayette 8-Way Meet

EASTON, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's track & field team finished first of three NCAA Division II/Division III teams at the Lafayette College 8-Way Meet Saturday as the Hounds competed as a full team for the first time in the 2018 outdoor season.

The Greyhounds scored 240 points among the DII/DIII teams while St. Thomas Aquinas was second with 161 points and Muhlenberg College was third with 59 points. Moravian had nine individual event champions and one relay squad finish first.

Junior Amari Schooler won the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 15.87 seconds. The Greyhounds 4x100-meter relay team of Schooler, freshman Camaryn Wheeler, freshman Aimee Badman and junior Jordan Luciano finished first in a time of 50.32 seconds. Luciano was also the runner-up in the 100-meter dash in 12.97 seconds.

Sophomore Carly Danoski captured the 800-meter run in a time of 2:15.34, the fastest time in the meet, while senior Sarah Hughes won the 1,500-meter run in 4:58.85. Freshman Natalie Novotni finished first in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 19:37.49.

Senior Beth Ann Davies won the pole vault at a height of 3.10 meters (10-2) while senior Casie Cronk took first in the high jump at 1.50 meters (4-11). Senior Carly Thorpe captured the triple jump with a distance of 10.20 meters (33-5.75) while freshman Janessa Ternosky was third at 9.82 meters (32-2.75). Luciano was the runner-up in the long jump with a mark of 5.07 meters (16-7.75) while freshman Jenevieve Eberly was third at 4.74 meters (15-6.75) and freshman Tyleen Lopez took fourth at 4.70 meters (15-5).

Freshman Emma Blades captured the javelin with a toss of 31.08 meters (102-0) while sophomore Hailee Yoder was second at 28.98 meters (95-1). Senior Trista Cunningham won the hammer throw with a toss of 40.93 meters (134-3) while senior Maggie Heft was the runner-up at 38.84 meters (127-5). Cunningham was also the runner-up in the discus with a toss of 37.61 meters (123-5) while freshman Layne Morgan was second in the shot put with a toss of 10.46 meters (34-4) and Heft took third at 10.17 meters (33-4.5).

In other distance races, senior Kirsten Lebo was the runner-up in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 14:29.05. Freshman Molly Tallarico was fourth in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 5:09.66 while sophomore Alyssa Ullmann placed fifth in 5:10.00 and freshman Grace Gilbert was seventh in 5:18.32. Sophomore Ashley Rohrer was the runner-up in the 5,000-meter in 20:14.19 while sophomore Marlee Hornbaker was fourth in 21:50.30 and freshman Alison Nicolosi took sixth in 22:27.35.

Junior Anna Osman was fourth in the 100-meter hurdles in 16.75 seconds while freshman Cat Cole was fifth at 17.32 seconds and Eberly took sixth in a time of 17.36 seconds. Eberly also took third in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:13.52 while Cole placed fourth in 1:16.85. Badman took third in the 100-meter dash in 13.16 seconds while Schooler was fifth in 13.32 seconds, junior Cecilia Fullowan placed sixth in 13.33 seconds and Wheeler took seventh at 13.45 seconds. Junior Morgan Weaver placed third in the 400-meter dash in 1:04.13 while Wheeler was fourth in the 200-meter dash in 27.44 followed by Fullowan in sixth at 27.70 seconds, sophomore Meghan Lazarchak in seventh in 27.93 seconds and Luciano in eighth in 27.83 seconds.

The Greyhounds are slated to return to action on Saturday, April 7 at the Muhlenberg College Invitational in Allentown.
