ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Senior Trista Cunningham won a pair of events to help the Moravian College women's track & field team sit in first place after the opening day of competition Saturday at the 2018 Landmark Conference Outdoor Championships being hosted by Elizabethtown College.
The Greyhounds have a 15-point edge over the host Blue Jays with Moravian scoring 79 points while Elizabethtown has 64 points. The Hounds had four individual champions on the first day of the meet.
Cunningham won the discus title for the third straight year with a meet record toss of 41.37 meters (135-9) while senior Ciara Stewart finished fifth with a mark of 31.91 meters (104-8). Cunningham would also win the shot put with a toss of 12.08 meters (39-7.75) while senior Maggie Heft was fifth with mark of 11.48 meters (37-8), freshman Layne Morgan took sixth at 11.20 meters (36-9) and Stewart in seventh place at 10.94 meters (35-10.75).
Junior Jordan Luciano had the Greyhounds' first individual title of the day as she won the long jump with a leap of 5.11 meters (16-9.25). Freshman Jenevieve Eberly finished third in the event with a distance of 4.98 meters (16-4.25) while freshman Tyleen Lopez took seventh at 4.82 meters (15-9.75) and senior Carly Thorpe was eighth at 4.79 meters (17-8.75 as Moravian earned 19 points in the event.
Senior Beth Ann Davies captured the pole vault title for the third straight year at a height of 3.05 meters (10-0).
Sophomore Carly Danoski was the runner-up in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 4:42.89 while senior Sarah Hughes was fourth in 4:49.89. Freshman Grace Gilbert began the day for the Greyhounds with a fifth place finish in the 10,000-meter run in a time of 40:56.70.
In the preliminaries, the Hounds qualified five for the 100-meter dash final with freshman Aimee Badman recording the fastest prelim time of 12.83 seconds. Also making the final were junior Anna Osman in 12.99 seconds, freshman Tatiana Lopez in 13.28 seconds, Luciano in 13.36 seconds and junior Amari Schooler in 13.41 seconds.
Badman also had the top qualifying time in the 200-meter dash in 26.32 seconds, and she will be joined in the finals by freshman Camaryn Wheeler, who ran 27.06 seconds and freshman Martha Thorpe with a time of 27.30 seconds.
The Greyhounds also pushed through five competitors in the 100-meter hurdles with Schooler running the top qualifying time of 15.42 seconds. Also reaching the final are Osman in 15.72 seconds, Tatiana Lopez in 16.04 seconds, freshman Cat Cole in 16.87 seconds and Eberly in 17.13 seconds.
The second day of the conference championships is slated to begin at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 5 at Elizabethtown.
