BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College sophomore Carly Danoski and senior Mary Kate Duncan have been selected to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for NCAA Division III schools in District IV.
To be eligible for Google Cloud Academic All-America® honors, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.30 grade-point average, be a sophomore, junior or senior and be a starter or significant reserve. District IV in NCAA Division III is made up of schools from Pennsylvania. Moravian has had 48 Greyhounds named Google Cloud Academic All-Americans® selected by CoSIDA.
By making the All-District First Team, Danoski and Duncan are now forwarded onto the national ballot to try for Google Cloud Academic All-America® accolades, which will be announced on June 19. There are a total of four student-athletes from the Landmark Conference on Academic All-District Teams.
Danoski finished sixth in her heat and 19th overall in the 800-meter run at the 2018 NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships hosted by the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse last week with a time of 2:13.53, the second fastest time in school history. Earlier in May, Danoski set the school record with a time of 2:10.72 to head to the NCAA meet with the seventh best qualifying time in the nation. She was the 2018 Landmark Conference Champion in the 800-meter run and also earned Landmark All-Conference Second Team honors in the 1,500-meter run and the 4x400-meter relay outdoors. Danoski was the 2018 Landmark Conference Indoor Champion in the 800-meter run and 4x400-meter relay, and as a freshman she was on the Landmark All-Conference Second Team in the 800-meter run outdoors and 4x400-meter relay indoors. Off of the track, Danoski has a 3.94 GPA while majoring in environmental science and has made the Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll three times while running cross country and both indoor and outdoor track.
Duncan earned her third All-American honor at the 2018 NCAA Division III Championships last week with a third place finish in the javelin. She was the National Champion in the even in 2017 and finished fourth in 2016 while competing at the NCAA meet all four years of her career. Duncan, who was selected as Moravian's 2018 Co-Senior Female Athlete of the Year, won the 2018 Landmark Conference Champion in the event after being the Landmark Conference runner-up in 2016 and 2017. She was a two-time ECAC Division III Champion, and Duncan earned her third United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Mideast Region honor this season. This spring she was selected as the 2018 Lehigh Valley Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women Most Outstanding in Field as well as Moravian's Co-Most Outstanding. Duncan was also honored as the 2018 Landmark Conference Senior Scholar-Athlete for Women's Outdoor Track & Field. Outside of the competition area, Duncan also excelled in the classroom with a 3.82 GPA while majoring in Public Health. She made the Dean's List in each of her eight semesters, and was a member of Moravian's inaugural Chi Alpha Sigma National Athlete Honor Society induction class in April 2018. Duncan was also named to the 2017 CoSIDA Division III Academic All-America Second Team, and is a three-time member of the Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll.
"As a coach obviously you like to see athletes be successful in their sport, but any coach will tell you they take the most pride in knowing the athletes are successful outside of athletics," state Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "Both Carly and Mary Kate are exceptional students and even more importantly they are strong people who will be exceptionally successful. Mary Kate is moving on to grad school and Carly will have her pick at grad assistantships or jobs when she graduates in two years. Making NCAAs, clearly they're both great athletes, but I mean this with all sincerity, they're both the type of people who will do extremely well professionally."
