Greyhounds Tie for First at Ursinus Bow Tie Invitational After Winning Five Events

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's track & field squad tied with Stockton University for first place of ten schools at the Ursinus College Bow Tie Invitational Friday evening as both squads scored 132.5 points in the meet at Floy Lewis Bakes Field House.

Event Winners

  • Junior Lexi Groff won the high jump with an All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference and personal best height of 1.66 meters (5-5.25). Groff earned 10 points for the victory, and her mark is the second highest in school history as she cleared the bar in her second attempt at the height
  • Senior Helen Davis took first in the 60-meter dash in an AARTFC qualifying time of 7.93 seconds to garner 10 points, and Davis also had the fastest time in the preliminaries in 7.88 seconds
  • Davis also placed first in the 200-meter dash with an AARTFC qualifying time of 26.36 seconds, tying her indoor PR in the distance, to score 10 more points
  • Freshman Elena Bocchetti captured the 800-meter run in a time of 2:26.24 to pick up 10 points for the Greyhounds
  • Freshman Tara Smurla won the 5,000-meter run in an AARTFC qualifying time of 18:49.16 for 10 points 

Top 8 Scoring Finishes

  • Senior Crystal Robinson was the runner-up in the 60-meter dash in an AARTFC qualifying time of 8.07 seconds to earn eight points while sophomore Abby Giamoni finished fifth in the race in a time of 8.25 seconds to earn another four points
  • Senior Elizabeth DeMassa took second in the 60-meter hurdle final in a time of 10.38 seconds for eight points while sophomore Bella DeMassa finished fifth in 10.72 seconds for four points after running 10.62 seconds in the preliminaries. Sophomore Ashley Rodrigues placed sixth in 11.07 seconds for three points while freshman Makenna Mersch finished seventh in 11.15 seconds for two more points after a preliminary time of 11.07 seconds
  • Sophomore Rachael Goodman placed third in the mile run with a time of 5:40.81 to earn six points while sophomore Amber Poniktera took fifth in 5:44.81 to pick up four points for the Hounds
  • Freshman Ali Haefele tied for fourth in the high jump at 1.45 meters (4-9) to earn 4.5 points towards the team score
  • Senior Rachel Byrne garnered five points in the 800-meter run with a fourth-place finish in a time of 2:29.88 while freshman Kate Rice was fifth in 2:31.79 for four points and sophomore Rylie Murphy took sixth in a PR time of 2:32.34 for three points
  • Freshman Tori Champagne was fourth in the 5K with a time of 19:42.07 to earn five points while senior Peyton Herbst took eighth in 22:01.19 to garner one point
  • Moravian finished out the evening with its "A" 4x400-meter relay team of Robinson, Mersch, Rodrigues and freshman Shai Knight placing third in 4:20.94 but garnering eight points as only each school's "A" relay team scored points. The Hounds "C" squad of Bocchetti, Byrne, Rice and Murphy was fifth in the event in 4:30.12 while the "B" team of Giamoni, Bella DeMassa and sophomores Zoey Bronson and Racquel Ramey finished sixth in 4:30.88
  • Sophomore Caillie Fish placed seventh and earned two points in the 20-pound weight throw with a toss of 12.21 meters (40-0.75) while sophomore Liz Miskovsky took eighth at 11.81 meters (38-9) for a point
  • Elizabeth DeMassa was fourth in the triple jump to earn five points with a distance of 10.14 meters (33-3.25) while Haefele was one spot back for four points with a PR mark of 10.13 meters (33-3)
  • Freshman Margie Rayne was eighth in the shot put as she scored one point for a toss of 10.11 meters (33-2)
