Volleyball Getting Set for 2014 Debut

Bethlehem, Pa.- Attitude is Everything

With a team of stand-out returners, the Moravian College women's volleyball team is ready for this season to start.  Hard work and a positive attitude this preseason has the team moving in the right direction with hopes of the top of the Landmark Conference.

"I'm excited for this season, we have a strong group of returners and have great team chemistry right now and I'm looking forward to start this weekend," said Head Coach Shelley Bauder

Leading by example are junior co-captains outside hitter Lauren Hostetler and defensive specialist Andrea Giardina. Hostetler who played in all 34 matches for the Greyhounds and recorded 318 kills, 243 digs, 18 service aces, 19 blocks and 14 assists in 2013. Giardina was named to the Landmark Conference All-Sportsmanship Team and had 293 digs, 23 assists, 12 service aces and eight kills last season.

Included in those strong returners is senior outside hitter Kelianne Comitalo, who has is eager to start her final season on the right foot.  Comitalo tallied up 117 kills, 168 digs, 25 service aces, 17 blocks and 10 assists last season for the Blue and Grey.  Junior middle blocker Victoria Bobyak recorded 179 kills, 44 blocks, 28 digs and seven  assists and was ranked second on the team for her 32 service ace is back for her junior year.

After an outstanding freshman campaign, middle blocker Taylor Kornmann is returning for her sophomore year and is looking to make even more noise in 2014.  Kornmann lead the team in kills, 352 and blocks, 87, in 2013. Kornmann earned her way onto the Landmark Conference All-Conference Second Team and was selected as the ECAC Division III South Women's Volleyball Player of the Week for Nov. 3rd.  She had a .295 hitting percentage, which was ranked third in Moravian single season records.

Bauder has high hopes for Kommann this season, "Taylor, or T.K as we call her, was one of our go to players last year and after her Second Team All-Conference honors I am expecting bigger and better things from her this year."

With the addition of some talented new freshman and the returning class we can expect some exciting and fun play from Moravian College.

Bauder is grateful for her assistants John Joseph Yanek, who is entering his fifth year with the program, and Deb Schlosser, who is entering her third season.

The Greyhounds season kicks off this Friday, August 29 at 4:00 p.m. in the 12th Annual Greyhound Premiere Invitational against Alvernia University in Johnston Hall.  They will end their night at 8:00 p.m. against The College of New Rochelle.  Pool play will resume again on Saturday, August 30 at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. in Johnston Hall.
