Hounds Split Matches on 2nd Day of Knights Invitational

ASTON, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball team split a pair of matches on the second day of the Knights Invitational hosted by Neumann University, posting a 3-2 victory over Widener University in the first match of the day Saturday before falling to rival Muhlenberg College, 3-1.

The Pride took the opening set from the Greyhounds, 26-24, before Moravian took the next set by the same score. Widener won the third set 25-19, but the Hounds won the fourth set 25-16 and took the deciding set 15-9.

Junior outside hitter Lauren Hostetler led Moravian with a match-high 18 kills to go along with 20 digs and a pair of service aces in the victory. Sophomore middle blocker Taylor Kornmann and freshman outside hitter Mary Zacher each contributed 11 kills with Kornmann added six digs and three blocks while Zacher had 19 digs and three assists.

Junior setter Megan Szkolnicki ran the offense with a match-high 50 assists, and she added nine kills and eight digs while freshman libero Jean Markovic had 25 digs to lead the Greyhounds, and she added four assists. Sophomore opposite hitter Jaclyn Smith and junior middle blocker Victoria Bobyak each contributed four kills and five digs while senior outside hitter Kelianne Comitalo added three kills. Junior defensive specialist Andrea Giardina had eight digs in the contest.

Muhlenberg would take the opening set in the second match, 25-18, before the Greyhounds evened the score with a 27-25 win in the second set. However, the Mules won the next two sets, 25-17 and 25-18.

Kornmann led the Greyhounds with nine kills to go with four digs in the final match of the tournament while Bobyak and Zacher each had eight kills. Bobyak added four digs, three blocks and a pair of service aces while Zacher contributed six digs.

Hostetler made seven kills in the match to go with eight digs while Szkolnicki had 34 assists and six digs. Smith contributed five kills, four blocks and three digs while Markovic posted a team high 14 digs and Giardina added six digs.

The Greyhounds are set to return to action on Wednesday, September 17 in a non-conference match at Penn State Brandywine beginning at 7:00 p.m.
