Volleyball Falls to No. 10 Juniata in Landmark Semifinals

HUNTINGDON, Pa. --- The fourth seeded Moravian College women's volleyball team dropped a three-set match to top seed and No. 10 ranked Juniata College in the Landmark Conference Semifinals Tuesday evening.

The Eagles, who have won all seven Landmark titles, jumped out to an 11-0 lead in the opening set and went on to post a 25-7 win.

After falling behind in the second set, Moravian tied the match at 5-5 on a service ace by senior outside hitter Kelianne Comitalo, and the Hounds moved in front on a kill from freshman outside hitter Mary Zacher. Midway through the set, the Greyhounds scored four straight points to lead 14-12 after a kill from sophomore middle blocker Taylor Kornmann. Comitalo tied the match again at 19-19 with a kill before Juniata earned a 25-22 victory.

Junior outside hitter Lauren Hostetler had a kill for the opening point of the final set, and the Greyhounds kept the set close throughout the first half, trailing 11-9 after a kill by Comitalo. The Eagles scored five straight points and went on to a 25-17 win and advance to the Landmark Championship match.

Zacher led the Greyhounds with nine kills to go with four digs while Comitalo had six kills, three digs and a service in her final match in a Moravian uniform. Hostetler also had six kills for the Hounds to go with a team-high six digs while Kornmann added four kills.

Junior setter Megan Szkolnicki paced the Moravian offense with 19 assists to go along with four digs while freshman libero Jean Markovic contributed four digs.

The Greyhounds finished the season in the Landmark Tournament for the eighth straight season.
