Moravian Volleyball Captures Two Wins at Bryn Mawr Tri-Match

BRYN MAWR, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball team won both of its matches at Bryn Mawr College in a tri-match Saturday. First, the Greyhounds beat the University of Valley Forge 25-13, 25-22 and 25-9, then later took on host Bryn Mawr and earned a 25-23, 17-25, 25-21, 23-25, 15-11 victory.

In the first match versus Valley Forge, the Hounds played great. They did not trail the Patriots at any point during the entire match. Sophomore outside hitter Mary Zacher led the team with 10 kills, eight digs and four service aces. Also putting up big numbers for the team was freshman middle blocker Erin Tiger, who added seven kills and had a .333 hitting percentage.

Leading the team in assists was senior setter Megan Szkolnicki with 18, and Szkolnicki also had four kills, two service aces and one dig. Freshman setter Rebecca Purcell had four digs and two assists.

Tiger continued her stellar play into the match with Bryn Mawr. She posted 13 kills, one solo block, four block assists and .370 hitting percentage in the match while Zacher also added 13 kills and 18 digs too. Junior middle blocker Taylor Kornmannadded another 10 kills, four digs, two solo blocks and one block assists for the Hounds.

Sophomore libero Jean Markovic added 19 digs, four assists and three aces, while freshman outside hitter Rachel Farmer also tallied 19 digs and three kills in the match. Szkolnicki had 39 assists, 11 digs and three kills for the team. Senior opposite hitter Jaclyn Smith contributed six kills and five block assists, while Purcell added 13 digs.

Moravian is scheduled to open its 2015 Landmark Conference season on Tuesday, September 22 when the Hounds host Elizabethtown College in Johnston Hall at 7:00 p.m.
