Women's Volleyball Opens Conference Play with Sweep of Elizabethtown

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball team opened Landmark Conference play with a sweep of Elizabethtown College 25-8, 25-22, 25-19 in Johnston Hall Tuesday night.

"I am extremely happy that we got our first conference win this season, and very pleased with how we came out very sharp at the beginning of the match and took control fairly early," commented Head Coach Shelley Bauder. "I was really proud of the ladies and the effort they gave tonight and it sets a great tone for the rest of the week and into the weekend when we face two key Landmark Conference opponents."

The first set started off close before the Hounds found their grove and ran off with a ten-point swing to lead Elizabethtown 18-6. The Greyhounds would go on to win the first set 25-8. In the second set, Elizabethtown reestablished their game; however, it was not good enough to take down the Hounds, who won 25-22 after a late rally. In the final set of the night, both teams fought back and forth with each other but Moravian was able to dig deep and take the third set 25-19.

Leading the attack for the Hounds was sophomore outside hitter Mary Zacher with 12 kills, 11 digs , one block assist and one service ace. Also putting up big number for the Greyhounds was freshman middle blocker Erin Tiger  as she added eight kills, a .533 hitting percentage, and two blocks. Junior middle blocker Taylor Kornmann tallied seven kills, six digs, two blocks and one assist. Senior setter Megan Szkolnicki lead the team with 25 assists, six digs, two service aces and one kill. Freshman outside hitter Rachel Farmer lead the team with three service aces, nine digs and one kill while sophomore libero Jean Markovic tallied 16 digs and added two service aces.
