Women's Volleyball Wins 4th Straight with 3-1 Victory at Penn State-Brandywine

MEDIA, Pa. --- Junior middle blocker Taylor Kornmann had a season-high 14 kills to help the Moravian College women's volleyball team win its fourth straight match as the Greyhounds defeated Penn State-Brandywine, 25-16, 25-19, 23-25, 25-8 in non-conference action Thursday evening.

The Hounds, who evened their record at 7-7 with the win, had their best hitting performance of the season with a .307 hitting percentage for the match. In the opening set with the score knotted as 12-12, freshman setter Rebecca Purcell served up five straight points to give Moravian a 17-12 lead and control of the set. In the second game, it was sophomore outside hitter Mary Zacher serving four straight points with the Greyhounds up just 10-9 to give a little edge. The Lions would eventually tie the set at 18-18 before sophomore defensive specialist Ashton Galasso served the final five points in the win for Moravian.

In the third set, Moravian had a 19-15 lead in the game before Penn State-Brandywine rallied to win the set. The Hounds answered in the fourth set with senior setter Megan Szkolnicki serving Moravian to a 7-0 lead. The Greyhounds eventually pushed the lead to 23-4 in the set before winning 25-8.

Kornmann added four solo blocks, two service aces and two digs in addition to her 14 kills while Zacher contributed 12 kills and three digs. Freshman middle blocker Erin Tiger posted seven kills and three blocks while junior outside hitter Jaclyn Smith had six kills and two blocks. Szkolnicki controlled the Moravian offense with 36 assists to go with a career-high seven service aces, six digs and three kills while Purcell added eight digs and a pair of service aces.

Galasso had three digs while sophomore libero Jean Markovic  added six digs and three service aces. Freshman outside hitter Rachel Farmer contributed a team-high nine digs in the victory while sophomore outside hitter Jordyn Jacques had three kills.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, September 26 in a pair of Landmark Conference match that will be played at Elizabethtown High School due to renovations at Elizabethtown College. The Hounds will take on No. 1 ranked Juniata College at 1:30 p.m. and Susquehanna University at 4:00 p.m.
