Volleyball Splits Matches in Landmark Conference Play

SCRANTON, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball team battled with The University of Scranton for five sets before falling 25-14, 19-25, 29-31, 25-16, 15-6 in today's Landmark Conference action hosted by the Royals. In the second match, the Greyhounds faced off with USMMA winning in three straight sets 25-15, 25-22, and 25-18 to finish off their day.

Leading the Hounds in the first match against Scranton was sophomore outside hitter Mary Zacher with 17 kills, 20 digs, four assists and two blocks. Also playing well was junior middle blocker Taylor Kornmann adding 15 kills, 13 digs and four blocks while junior opposite hitter Jaclyn Smith, tallied four kills, a team-high six blocks, two digs and one assist in the opener.

Senior setter Megan Szkolnickiled the team with 33 assists, 10 digs, three service aces, three kills and two blocks. Also seeing time on the court for the Greyhounds was freshman outside hitter Rachel Farmer contributed seven digs, three kills, two assists, one service ace and one block while freshman setter Rebecca Purcell added a team-leading 21 digs, two service aces, one assist, one kill and one block.

The second match versus the Mariner, the Hounds were led by Kornmann, who had a .400 hitting percentage in the match as she tallied 13 kills, three digs, one assist and one service ace. Just behind Kornmann were Zacher and Farmer adding 11 kills each. Zacher also had 14 digs, three assists and three service aces while Farmer contributed eight digs, two blocks, one assist and one service ace on the day.

Szkolnicki tossed in five kills, 35 assists, six digs and three service aces while Smith added another three kills, two digs and two blocks.

Next up for the Hounds is a home non-conference match with Gwynedd Mercy University on Wednesday, October 7 at 7:00 p.m. in Johnston Hall.
