Volleyball Splits Matches on Homecoming

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball team split a pair of non-conference matches today in Johnston Hall in the team's final home action of the season. First the Hounds defeated Baruch (N.Y.) College in five sets, 25-23, 19-25, 23-25, 25-17 and 15-13. The second match saw the Greyhounds lose to Gettysburg College in straight sets 25-16, 25-19 and 25-21.

The Hounds fought hard to come back and win the match with Baruch. After winning the first set, Moravian dropped the next two sets to the Bearcats. The Blue and Grey rallied back to win commandingly win the fourth set and steal away the fifth and final set.

Leading the way for the Hounds was junior middle blocker Taylor Kornmann, who racked up 18 kills, five blocks, two digs and one assist. Just behind her was sophomore outside hitter Mary Zacher, who added 14 kills, 18 digs, and three assists while freshman middle blocker Erin Tiger tallied nine kills, three blocks, and one digs. Setting everything up for the Blue and Grey was senior setter Megan Szkolnicki, who recorded 41 assists, five digs, three kills and two blocks while sophomore libero Jean Markovic lead the team with 30 digs and two assists.

In the second match versus Gettysburg, the Greyhounds were led by Kornmann with eight kills, three blocks and one service ace while Zacher added five kills and five digs. Tiger and junior opposite side hitter Jaclyn Smith both tallied four kills, two digs and a block. Markovic made 16 digs, one kill and a service ace while Szkolnicki had 24 assists, five digs and one kill.

Next up for the Greyhounds is an away match at Arcadia University on Saturday, October 26 at 7:00 p.m.
