Hounds Sweep Two Matches at Knights Invitational

ASTON, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball team swept a pair of matches Friday evening on the opening day of the Knights Invitational hosted by Neumann University.

The Greyhounds, now 6-4 on the season, opened the tournament with a 28-26, 25-14, 25-11 win over Baruch (N.Y.) College before a 25-19, 25-21, 25-23 victory over Widener University.

Senior middle blocker Taylor Kornmann led the Blue and Grey in the opening match with 10 kills, four service aces and three blocks while sophomore middle blocker Erin Tiger contributed seven kills. Junior outside hitter Mary Zacher had six kills, eight digs and a pair of blocks while senior right side hitter Jaclyn Smith and freshman outside hitter Brooke Kusmider each had four kills with Kusmider adding four digs and two service aces.

Freshman setter Victoria Kauffman paced the Moravian offense with 38 assists to go with six digs, four kills and a pair of service aces while freshman defensive specialist Alexis Szaro had a team-high 20 digs. Junior defensive specialist Ashton Galasso added seven digs in the victory.

Kornmann and Zacher each had 10 kills to lead the Greyhounds versus Widener with Kornmann adding three more service aces and Zacher contributing 13 digs and a pair of service aces. Tiger pounded out eight kills while Kusmider had four kills and Smith had a pair of kills.

Kauffman had 34 assists and four digs versus the Pride while Szaro added 13 digs. Galasso had six digs in the contest.

Moravian will play two more matches at the Knights Invitational on Saturday, September 17 with contests versus Swarthmore College and host Neumann. Action is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
