Volleyball Splits on Opening Day of Landmark Conference Action

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball team split a pair of matches to begin the 2016 Landmark Conference season Saturday in Johnston Hall with the Greyhounds falling to the Catholic University of America, 3-0, and defeating Goucher College, 3-0.

The Hounds opened the quad match versus Catholic, falling 25-12, 25-15, 25-17. Junior outside hitter Mary Zacher led the Blue and Grey with seven kills and eight digs while sophomore middle blocker Erin Tiger added six kills and three blocks. Senior middle blocker Taylor Kornmann also had six kills to go with two blocks while freshman outside hitter Brooke Kusmider contributed four kills and five digs.

Freshman setter Victoria Kauffman led the Greyhounds' offense with 23 assists to go with four digs three blocks. Junior libero Jean Markovic added six digs.

Moravian defeated Goucher, 25-14, 25-23, 25-14, in the final match of the day. Kornmann led the Greyhounds with 10 kills to go with five service aces while Kusmider had seven kills and six digs. Tiger contributed six kills and three blocks while Zacher added five kills, four service aces and 12 digs. Senior right side hitter Jaclyn Smith had five kills in the win.

Kauffman had 23 assists, three digs and a pair of service aces for Moravian while Markovic contributed 15 digs and three service aces.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, September 27 in a non-conference match versus Cabrini University beginning at 7:00 p.m. in Johnston Hall.
