Volleyball Drops Close Match Versus Cabrini

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball team opened its non-conference match with visiting Cabrini University by taking the first set but the Greyhounds were unable to hold off the Cavaliers, falling 3-1, in Johnston Hall Tuesday evening.

The Hounds took the opening set 25-22 despite trailing 4-1 early and 21-17 before scoring eight of the final nine points in the set. The second set went back-and-forth early on before Cabrini won 25-19. The Blue and Grey had a 7-4 lead in the third set, and the score would be tied at 19-19 before the back-and-forth action ended with the Cavaliers taking the set 25-23. Moravian jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the fourth set, which ended up being another back-and-forth affair with Cabrini winning 25-23 again.

Senior middle blocker Taylor Kornmann led the Greyhounds with 19 kills while sophomore middle blocker Erin Tiger added 10 kills. Junior outside hitter Mary Zacher contributed nine kills and 23 digs while freshman outside hitter Brooke Kusmider added 26 digs and five kills.

Freshman setter Victoria Kauffman led the Moravian offense with 41 assists to go with 15 digs and a pair of kills while junior libero Jean Markovic had a team-high 32 digs. Sophomore defensive specialist Bridgette Devlin contributed five digs.

Moravian is slated to return to action on Thursday, September 29 in a non-conference match versus Arcadia University beginning at 7:00 p.m. in Johnston Hall.
