Hounds Sweep Penn State Berks in Non-Conference Action

READING, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball team swept Penn State-Berks, 3-0, in the Greyhounds' final weeknight match of the 2016 campaign Wednesday evening.

The Greyhounds, now 17-13 on the year, won the opening set, 25-16, before edging the Lions, 25-22, in the second game. The Blue and Grey completed the sweep with a 25-15 victory in the third set.

Freshman outside hitter Brooke Kusmider led Moravian with 10 kills to go along with 12 digs and a pair of assists while sophomore middle blocker Erin Tiger had nine kills and three blocks. Junior outside hitter Mary Zacher contributed five kills, 14 digs and a pair of service aces for the Hounds while senior middle blocker Taylor Kornmann had four kills.

Freshman setter Victoria Kauffman paced the Greyhounds' offense with 26 assists to go with three digs while junior libero Jean Markovic had 21 digs to raise her career total to 1,514 digs, the fifth player in school history to reach the milestone. Markovic also had three service aces for Moravian. Senior right side hitter Jaclyn Smith contributed three kills and three blocks in the victory while freshman defensive specialist Alexis Szaro added eight digs and a pair of service aces.

Moravian is scheduled to close out its 2016 season in a non-conference tri-match at Franklin & Marshall College with Dickinson College on Saturday, October 29 in Lancaster. The Greyhounds are slated to play the Red Devils at 1:00 p.m. followed by the season finale with the Diplomats at 3:00 p.m.
