Volleyball Falls in Non-Conference Action at Muhlenberg

ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball team dropped a three-set non-conference match at rival Muhlenberg College Wednesday evening by scores of 25-22, 25-18, 25-23.

The Greyhounds had an early 4-3 edge in the opening set and rallied to get within a point 20-19 late before the Mules won the opening game. The second set saw the Blue and Grey come back from a 4-1 deficit for a tie at 707 and again at 17-17 before Muhlenberg pulled away. The third set was never more that a two-point lead for either squad with Moravian holding a late 21-20 edge before the Mules scored five of the last seven points.

Sophomore outside hitter Brooke Kusmider led the Greyhounds with 11 kills and three digs while senior outside hitter Mary Zacher had seven kills and 12 digs. Freshman middle blocker Madi Anslow contributed six kills and three digs while junior right side hitter Rachel Farmer added three kills and a pair of digs for the Blue and Grey.

Sophomore setter Victoria Kauffman paced the Moravian offense with 27 assists to go with a pair of kills and two digs while senior libero Jean Markovic had a team-high 19 digs to go with three assists. Sophomore defensive specialist Alexis Szaro added ten digs while freshman right side hitter Emerson Gieryic had a pair of kills and two digs. Junior middle blocker Erin Tiger added two blocks and two digs while freshman outside hitter Corinne Frick had three digs.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Friday, September 15 in the opening day of the Neumann University Knights Invitational with matches versus Salisbury (Md.) University at 6:00 p.m. and Ursinus College at 8:00 p.m.
